Giving Land Away Live on YouTube
For a while, every Monday morning at 9am Pacific, I went live on YouTube and gave away a piece of land. Over 100 properties went to viewers for free. It was a blast.
Monday mornings, live
I’d go live, talk through land deals, mail offers on camera, answer questions, and at some point in the show we’d pick a winner. Sometimes I had guests on. Chris Rivera and Dave mailed offers live with me, and Jason did land splitting with me. The giveaway kept people showing up live instead of watching later, and the questions got better every week.
The winners were great. One wrote in a couple of days after winning to thank me for making buying land feel simple, and offered to spread the word to all the homesteading groups he was part of so we’d get hundreds of live viewers instead of dozens.
Free land isn’t always free
Giving land away taught me a few things. Some lots carried yearly improvement-district fees or back taxes, so a “free” lot could still come with a bill. Getting deeds recorded into a winner’s name takes a few months, and keeping up with over 100 winners took a whole team.
Then one gift went wrong. A man who won free land got himself in trouble out on the property. His family told me he didn’t have the mental capacity to buy land and do this on his own, so in their eyes I was responsible. Who would’ve thought giving land away could get someone hurt? That was the end of the giveaways.
It’s still easy to get land
I stopped giving land away, but it’s still super easy to buy rural vacant land here. You can check out with a credit card in the middle of the night, no salesperson needed.
